Findings From ˿ƵAPP’s Kids Rock Cancer Program Collaboration With the Mayo Clinic Will Be Presented Internationally

˿ƵAPP’s Kids Rock Cancer program (KRC), in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, recently published a
indicating that music therapy helps young cancer patients cope with their distress and provides a creative outlet for negative feelings associated with cancer treatment. The , titled  “Music Played a Role in Saving My Life and Getting Me Through All of This,” made top news in the Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing.

The collaboration between KRC and Mayo Clinic, which was announced in December of last year, continues to bring insightful findings in music therapy research and improved support and resources to music therapy cancer patients in the St. Louis region.

“Together with Mayo Clinic, so many more children can benefit from the power of music therapy,” says Crystal Weaver, MHA, LPC, CRC, MT-BC and KRC’s Director of Music Therapy. “Music is an incredible outlet for processing negative emotions, and our data shows even a few short music therapy sessions can make a huge difference.”

KRC and Mayo Clinic’s findings will also be featured internationally at the 17th International Family Nursing Conference in Perth, Australia this June. All Kids Rock Cancer music therapy services are provided to patients for free, thanks to the continued support and generosity of various donors and community partners.
